Release Date: IMMEDIATELY

IN THE SOIL, a new juried arts festival to celebrate locally grown talent IS NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS!

St. Catharines, Ontario, November 12, 2008...Five local arts organizations have seeded the first annual In the Soil: Niagara's Homegrown Arts Festival. This is the Niagara region's first multi-disciplinary, juried arts festival intending to showcase the outstanding original creative talents of artists from, or with a close connection to the Niagara region. In the Soil is now accepting artist proposals for its festival on April 17-24, 2009, which includes a special juried showcase at the Centre for the Arts, Brock University on April 23, 2009.

The seed for this festival was first planted when Centre for the Arts looked to revive a showcase of local talent it once hosted called Niagara Weave. Deb Slade, Director of Centre for the Arts, says “The event has since planted roots in the community and grown beyond the capacity of what the Centre can present in one performance.” It will now be a 7-day festival scheduled throughout downtown St. Catharines.

Joe Lapinski, local singer-songwriter and Yummy Recordings’ Chief is a founding partner of In the Soil.  “Our arts scene, in all aspects, has been building and growing so vigorously that it is time we start celebrating it in an all encompassed event” Lapinski says.

Musicians, performers, dance artists and filmmakers who live in, or have a connection to the Niagara region are invited to apply for one of over fifty coveted spots in the festival.

In the Soil: Niagara's Homegrown Arts Festival is made possible by a new and growing partnership among Brock's Centre for the Arts, Suitcase in Point Theatre Company, Yummy Recordings, Pulse Niagara and the St. Catharines and Area Arts Council. The festival will showcase the diverse talents of both amateur and professional artists, in a number of performance disciplines in a variety of locations in downtown St. Catharines and at the Centre for the Arts, Brock University.

Applications are available for download at www.inthesoil.on.ca and will close on January 30, 2009.

Joe Lapinski is happy to announce that he will be having a cd release party for his 1st solo album on Saturday November 13th. The album is called Here Are The Postcards I Forgot To Send You. It is a full-length album that spans music he has recorded in the past 2 years. All beginning with some kitchen recording sessions with the infamous Dr.Pee (Dinner Is Ruined, Magna Cum Loud).

The show will be at the Niagara Artists' Company (NAC) on 2 Bond St. here in St.Catharines. The night will involve Joe playing with some friends, as well as Magna Cum Loud and Edwin Conroy adding their 2 cents to the night. Should be a blast.

10/01/04:

Readable Ink has been asked to do the soundtrack to a short film by Gardener’s Plum productions.

It is apparently an Avant Garde motion picture that will be sent to all the film festivals in the world. Readable Ink will start work on this in November and is very much excited by this huge opportunity. It will also give them a chance to break in their new piano player, Jesse Visser. Jesse came all the way from the Big Smoke after hearing many wonderful things about Readable Ink.
